FAQ For

I’m fearful of visiting the dentist because of bad previous experiences. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that you don’t love dental offices as much as we do! We encourage you to visit our office and meet our lovely team who are here to offer you personalized services. We have years of experience working with both trepid children and adults alike. We will focus on helping you understand all the steps of the procedure thoroughly, before they are undertaken. We will also appropriately suggest the use of sedation and general anaesthesia if needed. This should help you feel relaxed and aid in the development of positive dentistry experiences.

I am covered under Ontario’s Healthy Smiles program. Do you accept this coverage?

We most certainly accept new patients under the Healthy Smiles program and would love to assist you in any way we can.

My child has a cavity. What should I do?

If you notice a cavity, book an appointment for your child and visit the dentist as soon as possible. The earlier the cavity is filled, the better their long-term tooth health will be. Make sure to bring your child to the dentist regularly from the age of one. This will help them develop positive experiences of the dentist and also aid in the early detection of any problems like cavities and tooth malocclusion.

I heard dental X-rays will expose me to radiation. Are they safe?

X-rays are a critical part of maintaining your oral health and helping detect teeth, gum and bone diseases early. Modern technology has greatly improved the safety of X-rays. At D.R. Dental, we use digital X-rays. This technology further reduces the amount of radiation emitted during the radiographic procedure. In addition, we provide high coverage lead gowns with a thyroid coverage to protect your body from the X-rays. This combination means that you have a very low risk of experiencing health impacts due to the X-rays. In fact, you are at a greater risk of serious dental complications by avoiding oral examinations.

Is fluoride safe to use on my teeth?

Fluoride is scientifically proven to be helpful in preventing tooth decay and helping them remain stronger for longer. We recommend that our patients use toothpaste with fluoride to help reinforce their teeth on a daily basis. We also offer fluoride treatments during dental hygiene appointments.

I want whiter teeth. What is the best way to getting them?

Whiter teeth can make your smile more beautiful and radiant, many of our patients wish to have whiter teeth. While many over-the-counter tooth whitening kits are available, none of them will provide you with the same strength as professional whitening done by a dentist. That’s because we are trained to apply stronger and more effective gels in a controlled and safe manner. If you choose to buy whitening kits at a pharmacy, make sure to only buy those that have been certified by the ADA seal.

How often do I need a dental hygiene cleaning?

Dental hygiene cleanings are an irreplaceable method for helping maintain your oral health. We usually recommend anywhere between 3-6 months for your dental cleanings. Many insurances cover more than one cleaning a year and we encourage you to utilize this to its fullest. Speak with the dentist and the hygienist to find out if you would benefit from a more frequent schedule of hygiene cleanings.

I’m thinking of getting an electric toothbrush. Is it better for my teeth?

An electric toothbrush can be a fantastic tool for many people, but unfortunately it is not for everyone. If you’re interested in switching from a manual toothbrush to an electric one, or vice versa, we suggest bringing it up during your dental hygiene appointment. Your dentist and hygienist will be able to give you the best advice based on your oral health.

Do you offer same day or flexible appointments?

If you have a dental emergency, we will give you the highest priority. That means that you can be seen on the same day and expect professional service no matter the hour.

We know that it can sometimes be nearly impossible to find a free slot of time for a dental appointment during regular working hours. That is why we offer special early and late appointments, as well as weekend appointments, to accommodate your work hours.

I have insurance. Do I need to pay upfront or will you bill the company?

At D.R. Dental we want to make your visit as hassle-free as possible. That’s why we accept all insurances and then send the insurance claim to your provider directly.
